In 1995, Robert Mondavi of California and Vittorio Frescobaldi of Tuscany joined hands to create an Italian wine of extraordinary quality. Their partnership was the first of its kind in Italy, and their premier offering was Luce della Vite. The name means " Light of the Vine " in Italian and was inspired by the morning sunlight on the way from Florence to the renowned winemaking region of Montalcino.
Luce was the first wine from Montalcino made by blending Sangiovese and Merlot grapes. It was thanks to the collaboration of the Marchesi de’ Frescobaldi and Robert Mondavi Families that came to the idea of matching the roundness and softness of Merlot with the elegance and structure of Sangiovese in the land of Brunello di Montalcino, the worldwide famous Italian wine made strictly from Sangiovese grapes.
When poured in a glass, immediately manifests its extraordinary richness with an intense and impenetrable color coupled with an elegant and complex bouquet.
To the nose, aromas are vibrant and vary from red berries, such as cherries and raspberries, to spiced notes enriched by delicate floral undertones.
To the palate, the wine distinguishes itself for balance and freshness, persisting aromas, and refined and silky tannins that bestow great structure free from any sharpness.
