Known and loved in France for over two hundred years, the distinctive taste of anise-based beverages is increasingly popular in the United States. A refreshing aperitif, Ricard is the Number One pastis, or an aniseed-flavored beverage, in the world, produced from star anise, a rare spice from China and Vietnam.
In 1932, at the age of only 23, Paul Ricard invented the first French long drink: one volume of pastis with five volumes of water, served with ice. “It shall be called Ricard, the real pastis from Marseille!”
In accordance with Paul Ricard’s original recipe, Ricard pastis should be served cold. It should be prepared by adding 10 cl of chilled water to 2 cl of Ricard and then adding the ice cubes last. This ritual will release the full aroma of the anise.
