Screaming Eagle is one of Napa Valley's smallest wineries. The little stone winery is perched on a rocky hillside in the Oakville Appellation overlooking the vineyard planted in Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc.
The wine is aged 65% in new French oak barrels for almost two years. Annual production is approximately 500 cases, with most wine sold directly to consumers via a mailing list. The winery's first release was approximately 200 cases of the 1992 vintage.
Blend: 61% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc and 37% Cabernet Sauvignon
Garnet-purple colored, 2018 The Flight drifts sensuously out of the glass with the most gorgeous perfume of red roses, kirsch, black raspberries and fresh blackcurrants followed by hints of iron ore, tilled soil, lavender and star anise plus a touch of powdered cinnamon.
Medium to full-bodied, the palate has a fantastically chiseled structure of ripe, grainy tannins and bold freshness supporting the black fruit and floral layers, finishing with bags of minerals.
